Description
Metakelfin 500mg Tablets B/P (9×5’s)
Metakelfin 500mg Tablets contain a fixed-dose combination of Sulfalene (500mg) and Pyrimethamine, formulated to offer potent antimalarial action. This combination is used primarily for the treatment and prophylaxis of malaria, particularly Plasmodium falciparum infections, including strains resistant to other antimalarial agents.
Metakelfin works through a synergistic mechanism:
-
Sulfalene, a long-acting sulfonamide, inhibits dihydropteroate synthase, disrupting folate synthesis in the parasite.
-
Pyrimethamine inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, enhancing the folate antagonism and improving efficacy.
This dual-action approach effectively halts parasite replication and supports rapid clinical recovery, making Metakelfin suitable for use in both therapeutic and prophylactic settings.
Indications:
-
Treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria
-
Malaria prophylaxis in high-risk regions (as advised by a physician)
