Product Overview:
Linvesta 5mg Tablets contain linagliptin, a selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. By increasing levels of incretin hormones, linagliptin enhances insulin secretion and reduces glucagon release, thereby improving blood sugar control.
Indications:
Linvesta is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It may be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medications, such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin.
Dosage and Administration:
- Recommended Dose: 5 mg once daily.
- Administration: Take the tablet whole with or without food, at the same time each day.
- Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it’s near the time for the next dose. Do not double doses.
Precautions:
- Renal Function: No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with renal impairment.
- Liver Function: No dose adjustment is required for patients with hepatic impairment.
- Hypoglycemia: Risk may increase when used with insulin or sulfonylureas; monitor blood sugar levels regularly.
- Pancreatitis: Discontinue linagliptin if pancreatitis is suspected.
- Pregnancy and Lactation: Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include:
- Nasopharyngitis
- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Cough
Serious side effects are rare but may include:
- Hypoglycemia (especially when used with other antidiabetic agents)
- Pancreatitis
Storage:
Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
Note:
Linvesta is not recommended for the treatment of type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential to assess the effectiveness of therapy. Always follow the dosing instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
