Description
DICHLOR TABS 12.5MG 30’S contain chlorthalidone, a long-acting thiazide-like diuretic commonly used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and fluid retention (edema) associated with conditions such as congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and certain liver disorders.
Mechanism of Action:
Chlorthalidone works by increasing the excretion of sodium and water through the kidneys, which reduces blood volume and lowers blood pressure. It also helps in removing excess fluid from the body, alleviating swelling in the lower limbs or lungs due to fluid buildup.
Therapeutic Uses:
-
Essential hypertension: Effective as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
-
Edema: Due to congestive heart failure, nephrotic syndrome, or hepatic cirrhosis.
-
Prevention of kidney stones in patients with high calcium in the urine (off-label use).
Dosage & Administration:
The typical starting dose is 12.5 mg once daily, with the possibility of adjustment depending on patient response. Tablets should be taken in the morning to avoid nocturia (frequent urination at night).
Precautions:
-
Regular monitoring of electrolytes (especially potassium), kidney function, and blood pressure is recommended.
-
Use with caution in patients with diabetes, gout, or kidney/liver impairment.
-
Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight, as chlorthalidone can increase skin sensitivity.
-
Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed.
Common Side Effects May Include:
-
Electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, sodium, or magnesium)
-
Dizziness or lightheadedness
-
Increased urination
-
Fatigue
-
Gout flare-ups (in predisposed individuals)
DICHLOR TABS 12.5MG offer effective, long-acting blood pressure and fluid control, contributing to cardiovascular risk reduction and symptom relief when used under medical guidance.
