Description
Daboral 250mg Tablets (20’s) contain Aminosidine Sulphate (Paromomycin), an aminoglycoside antibiotic used primarily to treat intestinal protozoal infections such as amoebiasis, giardiasis, cryptosporidiosis, and tapeworm infections. It is also used for suppressing intestinal flora before bowel surgery and in managing hepatic encephalopathy.
How It Works:
Paromomycin acts locally in the intestines by binding to the ribosomal subunit of susceptible protozoa, inhibiting protein synthesis, which leads to the death of the parasites.
Dosage:
Adults typically take one 250mg tablet orally every 8 hours. Children’s dosage is based on body weight and should be determined by a healthcare professional. It is important to complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.
Precautions:
Not suitable for patients with allergies to aminoglycosides. Use cautiously in those with kidney or hearing problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use.
Possible Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and heartburn. Serious side effects, although rare, may include hearing loss, dizziness, seizures, or muscle weakness. If serious symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
