Description
DICHLOR TABS 25MG 30’S contain Chlorthalidone 25mg, a thiazide-like diuretic used to manage hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema (fluid retention) associated with heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disorders. Chlorthalidone is known for its long half-life, allowing for sustained diuretic and antihypertensive effects with once-daily dosing.
Mechanism of Action:
Chlorthalidone works by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys. This leads to increased excretion of sodium, water, and potassium, reducing plasma volume and peripheral vascular resistance, thereby lowering blood pressure and relieving edema.
Therapeutic Uses:
-
Hypertension (mild to moderate): Used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
-
Edema: Due to congestive heart failure, nephrotic syndrome, or hepatic cirrhosis.
-
Calcium-containing kidney stone prevention (off-label use).
-
Heart failure: As part of a diuretic regimen to manage fluid overload.
Dosage and Administration:
Typically taken once daily, preferably in the morning, to minimize nighttime urination. The 25mg strength may be initiated based on clinical need, especially in patients requiring stronger diuretic effects than the 12.5mg dose.
Precautions:
-
Monitor electrolytes regularly (especially potassium and sodium).
-
Use with caution in patients with diabetes, gout, or renal impairment.
-
May increase sensitivity to sunlight—limit prolonged sun exposure.
-
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Common Side Effects:
-
Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., low potassium or sodium)
-
Dizziness or lightheadedness
-
Increased urination
-
Weakness or fatigue
-
Gout flare (in predisposed individuals)
DICHLOR TABS 25MG offer reliable control of blood pressure and edema when used under proper medical supervision, contributing to long-term cardiovascular health.
