How It Works:
Labetalol reduces heart rate and blood vessel constriction by blocking β and α₁ receptors, leading to decreased peripheral resistance and improved cardiac output.
Dosage:

Initial dose: 100 mg twice daily with food

Typical maintenance: Increases of 100 mg twice daily every 1–2 weeks, often maintained at 200 mg twice daily

Higher doses: For refractory cases, daily doses up to 800 mg (divided) or up to 2,400 mg in severe hypertension
Precautions:

Avoid in patients with asthma, COPD, severe bradycardia, heart block, cardiogenic shock, or uncontrolled heart failure. Not suitable during first trimester of pregnancy.

Use with caution in liver impairment—rare reversible liver damage has been reported. Monitor liver function during therapy.Medex

Common Side Effects:
