Product Overview:
Linvesta-EMP is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing two active ingredients: empagliflozin 10 mg and linagliptin 5 mg. This medication is designed to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus by improving blood sugar control through complementary mechanisms.
- Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that reduces blood glucose levels by promoting the excretion of excess glucose through urine.
- Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that enhances insulin secretion and decreases glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner.
Indications:
Linvesta-EMP is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It may be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medications when these do not provide adequate glycemic control.
Dosage and Administration:
- Recommended Dose: One tablet (10 mg empagliflozin / 5 mg linagliptin) taken orally once daily.
- Administration: The tablet can be taken with or without food. It is advisable to take the medication at the same time each day to aid in adherence to the prescribed regimen.
- Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.
Precautions:
- Renal Function: Linvesta-EMP is not recommended for patients with severe renal impairment (e.g., estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] <30 mL/min/1.73 m²) or end-stage renal disease.
- Hypotension: Use with caution in patients with low blood pressure or those on antihypertensive therapy.
- Genital Mycotic Infections: SGLT2 inhibitors like empagliflozin may increase the risk of genital yeast infections.
- Pancreatitis: Discontinue linagliptin if pancreatitis is suspected.
- Pregnancy and Lactation: Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include:
- Urinary tract infections
- Increased urination
- Genital mycotic infections
- Dehydration
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
Serious side effects are rare but may include:
- Ketoacidosis
- Severe hypotension
- Acute pancreatitis
Storage:
Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
